You might ask, what is a Satellite Group? This is a group of SUBVETS Groton Base members who live in the southwest corner of Connecticut. Because of the distance these members are not able to participate in many of the events of Groton Base. However, they still desire to get together and share Submarine camaraderie without the administrative burden of forming their own separate USSVI Base. They are strongly committed to supporting Groton Base, so the group meets regularly on the third Monday of the month at the Westport VFW at 7 pm. They put together a brunch crew that has consistently cooked outstanding Brunches for us every second Sunday of the month, and they have also put together an honors detail to support Groton Base with Honors Details in the southwest part of the state. Their whole objective is to just enjoy each others company as Submariners and enjoy being members of Groton Base; they have even attracted new members from that area.
Bill Andersen and Bill Hall are steering the course for the Westport Group and they are doing a terrific job. Their group’s efforts are in keeping with our Creed and a shining example to the rest of us what it means to be a member of this organization.
If you live in that area of the state you are welcome to join them for their monthly meetings. There meetings are scheduled for the third Monday of every month at 7pm at the Westport VFW.
